What’s Love got to do with it?

Sermon by Pastor Ayoola Jolayemi

Focus texts: 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, 1 John 4:7, John 3:16-17

We have been formed by our personal experiences. We have become formed into the image of our disappointments. God makes his love perfect by giving us his only son, so love has everything to do with it!

But most of the love we have is rooted in selfishness, the love for self above all else. This is not how God designed for us to live. We must live from the point of letting go so that we can receive. We must live from a point of love, so we can have full and meaningful lives. Love Is Not What We Do. Love It Who We Are. If you love you are in God.

Nuggets:

  1. If your love not established on God but on what we can get from God. It’s not love. The world preaches self which is not God.
  2. Prayer is good, but a show of love is usually better (I Corinthians 13:1).
  3. Make your requests for progress, wealth etc. founded on love not on personal enrichment. If you are wrapped up all in yourself, you are really a tiny package!
  4. Every love not rooted in sacrifice is not of God. If there is no letting, go there cannot be space for new. If you do not look through the eyes of love you will always think you are the one in need. What have you sacrificed for the love of Christ you professed? Do you love God for who is to you not what he gives to you?

If the motive is wrong there is no blessing in it, that is all the reward you will get.

My Twice have I heard:

What jumped out at me was the statement, “if you do not look through the eyes of love, you will always think that you are the one in need” #selah need I explain further? This is so true! The times I have really felt sorry for myself, were times I kept the radar/ focus on myself but as soon as I shifted that focus off me, I realized how blessed I have been. I do not want my life to be a tiny package! God thought me something, he said, meet the needs of others and I will meet yours. I have never seen a pipe in use, which carries water to places, being dry. It does not happen. This also applies to our lives.

So, what did you hear twice? What jumped out at you from the sermon?

This sermon was so profound! Love is who I am and not what I do. Whether or not it is reciprocated, I have made a decision to walk in love and live a life of love. It is my identity! As He is, so am I in this world! Amen!
